Using Blended Learning to Develop Students' Skills and Motivation

Abstract

This paper discusses the challenges of an innovative Bachelor Thesis Seminar, which is a mandatory course for students of Ethics. In order to overcome the problem of (a) weak student motivation for writing their bachelor theses and (b) their lack of academic writing skills, the blended learning approach was chosen to serve this dual purpose. The results of the innovation, as measured by questionnaires, brought unexpected results: although the blended learning created sufficient possibilities for writing skills development, its e-learning element, which aimed to increase students’ motivation for writing the bachelor thesis, did not meet this original expectation.
